The collection consists of papers of the Rhind / Stokes from 1788-1919. The papers include personal and business correspondence
and financial records of James Rhind (1848-1854), Colden Rhind (1884-1911), James Rhind Stokes and Sarah Gardner Stokes (1884-1949),
and J.R. Stokes (1906-1917). Bound volumes contain business accounts (1788-1811) from several merchants in Augusta (Ga.);
a cotton invoice book (1843-1848) and letter books (1843-1852) for James Rhind ? and several ledgers relating to Colden Rhind's
brokerage businesses (ca. 1886-1909). Of particular interest are records of H.T. Massingale, a Quartermaster for the Confederate
Army from 1861-1864. These records include requisitions and pay vouchers from Tennessee (1861-1862) and Atlanta (1862-1864)
and Augusta (1864) Georgia. Also includes burial lists of Confederate soldiers and Federal prisoners from various hospitals
mainly in the Atlanta area dated December 31, 1863.

for the Tubman Home. The papers document the sale and lease of lands, administration of the Academy of Richmond County, role
of the Trustees in the growth and development of Augusta, and evolution of the purpose of the Trustees. Additional papers
document the Old Medical College and the dispensation of funds from the Porter Fleming Foundation, the Joseph Lamar Rucker
Scholarship, and the Robinson Trust Fund.

to the Cadle family of Emanuel County, Georgia. Genealogical information is included on the Everett, Burke, Brinson, Foy,
Dasher, and Anderson families of Effingham, Screven, Richmond, Jefferson, Emanuel, and Houston counties. Varied papers and
pictures are included concerning the Overstreet and Scott families of Emanuel County, and the Braun family of Cleveland, Ohio
and Daytona Beach, Florida. Included are a letter and telegram from Ernest Neal, poet laureate of Georgia in the 1920s and
1930s. The collection also contains several metric survey plats, a metric deed and correspondence relating to them.
